Biologically Inspired Computation and Learning
in Artificial Sensorimotor Systems
Although the hardware processing capabilities of computers and
communication devices continue to grow exponentially, the manner in
which we use and interact with these devices has not fundamentally
changed. How can we program these devices so that they are better
able to understand what we want them to do and adapt to our needs?
Algorithms and architectures that mimic how biological systems process
information may provide the answer. I will demonstrate some
prototypical systems that I have built with embedded processors,
sensors, and wireless networking technologies. We'll see examples of
how biologically inspired computation and learning can be applied to
controlling these systems.
