Javi did her Bachelor in Biological Sciences at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and then moved to the University of Barcelona to complete her Master and PhD degrees in Psychology. She studied the mechanisms of memory shaping in the human brain, with the aim of treating maladaptive memories in anxiety patients. In the LeDoux lab, Javi is studying how the gut microbiome might be a critical player for the development and perpetuation of anxiety disorders. She believes that harnessing our gut bacteria can improve current treatments to treat anxiety patients.
