LICENSING
All these matlabs are completely useless if you cannot access a license server or a standalone license. The matlab we distribute come with network licenses. But your network must be able to reach a license server to acquire a license. If you think your network matlab license files may be out-dated, you may download the current versions here. Current network matlab licenses If you think you need a standalone license for your laptop or home computer, you may email systems@cns.nyu.edu to request one. We distribute the Designated Computer standalone license. See the simple instructions below to install such licenses.
How to Install Your Standalone License
Your license file should be placed in the licenses subfolder within the matlab app folder. No other files whatsoever should be in there. Done. Below is a bit more details. Go to the download URL given to you and click on the link for your computer. Then click on the link for the license file - make sure you do a download. Further, make sure your downloaded license file is named license.lic with no extra extensions. This must be a plain-text file (not Word or other word processing file). The license files we generate are for a Designated Computer. They should be placed within the <matlab app>/licenses/. MOVE any and all existing files in <matlab app>/licenses/ to a subfolder named SAVE (for save keeping) and place this new license.lic in that folder. For Windows, replace <matlab app> by <matlab program files>. Done. You may actually installed matlab licenses in other locations as given below. If a given folder do not exist, you may simply create it. The default license location is within the matlab app folder. Here are some typical reasons why your license may not work. Possible matlab license locations based on its type and platform. As matlab may continue to use the old license file, you may need to look in the other possible locations to remove them. Locations for License Files =========================== We distribute the license for Designated Computer, but others may not. ********************* MACOS ********************* Designated Computer, (Concurrent, and Network Named User licenses) =================== License files are stored inside the MATLAB application package. Right click or CTRL-click on the MATLAB icon in /Applications and select "Show Package Contents." Go down the licenses folder to access your license files. Individual licenses =================== License files are stored in /Users/$USER/Library/Application Support/MathWorks/MATLAB/R20XXx_licenses where $USER is your username and R20XXx is your release of MATLAB, e.g. R2019b. For MATLAB older then R2016b, your license files are located in ~/.matlab/R20XXx_licenses. ********************* LINUX ********************* Designated Computer, (Concurrent, and Network Named User licenses) =================== The license files are stored in /usr/local/MATLAB_R20XXx/licenses (NOTE: Replace "R20XXx" with release number, e.g. R2019b.)
