Neural Aesthetics
G41.3951
Meets Thurs. 1:30-3:30pm
285 Mercer, 10th Floor conference rm.
This graduate course aims to bring together ideas in the study of aesthetics
with recent neuroscientific research and theory into the brain basis for
preferences and aesthetic judgment. The course is intended for graduate
students both from humanities backgrounds and from science backgrounds,
though we welcome other interested individuals (postdocs, faculty, etc.) to
contact us regarding sitting in. The seminar course will be highly
interactive, consisting of short prepared lectures followed by student led
discussions of journal articles.
Our intent is that participants with diverse backgrounds will help each other
to get the most out of the course by making unfamiliar topic areas more
accessible to people outside a given field. Background reading materials
will be suggested for those who feel they need a deeper introduction to key
topics. Course evaluation will consist of 2 in class presentations on
topics/articles of choice and a final project.
