Postdoctoral Positions
Full-time postdoctoral positions are available in the
Laboratory for
Computational Vision at New York University.
The work of the lab is
highly interdisciplinary, covering a range of fundamental problems in
the analysis and representation of visual information by both
biological and machine systems. Example topics include:
- Statistical modeling of natural images
[Example
pub1,
pub2]
- Relationship of natural image statistics to early biological visual processing
[Example
pub1,
pub2,
pub3
]
- Visual texture analysis and representation
[
Brief description and pubs]
- Computational modeling of early- to mid-level visual processes.
Model-driven psychophysical investigations.
[Example
pub1,
pub2,
pub3]
- Model-based image processing (image compression, denoising,
enhancement, restoration from partial data).
[Example
pub1,
pub2]
- Development of novel stochastic stimuli and analysis techniques
for characterizing neural response properties.
[Example
pub1,
pub2]
- Development of novel devices for optical sensing,
including aids for the blind.

Applicants must have strong mathematical and computational skills:
preferred educational background is a PhD in Electrical Engineering,
Physics, or Applied Mathematics. Previous experience with
signal/image processing, statistical modeling, or computational
neuroscience is highly desirable.
Initial appointments are for one year, and are renewable. Salaries
are paid by the Computational Biology program of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and
will be set based on experience and skills. Position also includes a generous
benefit package (health coverage, retirement, tuition coverage, etc).
HHMI is an equal opportunity employer.
Applicants should send email to
, providing:
- a brief description of research interests and plans
- a resume
- names of at least two references
All materials
should be in Acrobat (pdf), PostScript (ps) or plain text (no MS Word
documents, please), and may be included as a URL, or as an email
attachment.
