Bio: B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania (1983). Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania (1987). Postdoctoral fellow at the MIT Media Lab (1987-1990). Research scientist at the NASA Ames Research Center (1990-1991). Assistant Professor at Stanford University (1991-1998). Associate Professor at Stanford (1998-2002). Over 130 journal papers; 6 US patents. David Marr Prize in computer vision (1987). Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship (1994). Troland Award in psychology from the National Academy of Sciences (2002). Margaret and Herman Sokol Faculty Award in the Sciences, New York University (2006). Elected member of the National Academy of Sciences (2013).
