SharpImage Software currently provides six products. These include the HIPS image processing software, and three add-on products which enhance HIPS in a variety of ways. The following are brief descriptions of the add-on products. Each package is supplied on magnetic tape in UNIX tar format (QIC-150, 8 mm, or 4 mm DAT cartridge) or via ftp, and comes with source code and on-line documentation. All add-on products require the HIPS system itself to be functional.
This package provides two tools which may be used to preview and browse HIPS images and image sequences. They allow the user to interactively look at different HIPS images in either byte or binary format. On a monochrome monitor, byte-formatted images are automatically halftoned. Image sequences are animated. With the touch of a mouse button, the user can control animation parameters such as speed and direction of animation. A pop-up window allows users to examine the image header of the image being viewed. This is an essential addition for users who work with image sequences (e.g., for motion analysis). The programs are sunanim which works under the SunView window system (available on Sun and Sun-compatible machines) and xvanim which works under the XView window system (an Xwindows toolkit available generally, but most often seen on Sun systems).
For Sun workstation users, this is an interactive image processing tool. The current version runs under SunView, although there are plans to develop an XView version. It is a window based tool which will display a HIPS image file in a sun-window. It allows an interactive region of interest ``box'' to be sized and moved. The contents of the box can be passed through an arbitrary HIPS filter, and then drawn back into the box (or saved in a file). There are various painting and erasing features, including a ``fatbits'' window which will magnify a region of the image for fine-grained painting and erasing. There are various color map manipulation functions supported, such as sweeping, thresholding, etc. All operations are buffered so that they may be ``undone''.
This package provides programs which allow the user to view a 24-bit RGB image on an 8-bit color monitor by using a peano-curve scan of the color values and then computing the best possible 8-bit pseudo-color image to represent it.
Mvox is a general-purpose tool for visualization and manipulation of a wide range of 2-4D grey level/colour images and 3D surface graphics. Mvox can be used for visualization of 3D medical images (CT, MR, etc.), 2D remote sensing images with many channels and 2-3D colour images (Red, Green and Blue). In addition Mvox can visualize and manipulate 3D surface graphics (as used in CAD programs) and 3D graphics can be exported in VRML format for use on the WWW. The wide range of data types that can be handled by Mvox makes it a very flexible tool and it is especially well suited for users with changing or widespread needs. Mvox interfaces seamlessly with HIPS. Mvox is available from it's author, Morten Bro-Nielsen. For more information on Mvox, click on the Mvox logo above.
