Phase resetting, noise, and synchrony

Bard Ermentrout
University of Pittsburgh
USA

Abstract

In this talk, I will discuss what we can learn about neuronal firing patterns by regarding neurons as nonlinear oscillators. I will describe some classical experimental methods for probing experimental systems and then show how the results from these experiments can be used to derive models for coupled neurons. I will show some recent analytic methods for studying these models and the role that noise plays in synchrony and the loss of synchrony.
