Dynamic information in ensemble taste codes.

Abstract
Neural sensory responses are frequently described in terms that discard
response dynamics (msec-to-msec, trial-to-trial, and beyond) and
inter-neuronal coherence. My lab’s research demonstrates that each of
these aspects of cortical taste activity contains information about the
proffered stimuli, and that response dynamics at different time-scales
are related. I will present evidence for multiplexing (and plasticity)
of information in taste temporal codes, and of the ensemble basis of
these codes. These data point the way toward network-level, dynamical
theories of sensory processing.
