Research Interests
- Response properties of cortical neurons and simple neuron models: whole cell in vitro recordings of spike trains in response to injection of stochastic currents; output of an integrate-and-fire neuron(IF) (see example in Figure 1.).
- Variability and correlations: What makes in vivo cortical responses be so variable across repeated trials? why is this variability shared among neurons? what mechanisms underlie the generation of variability and correlations (circuitry, synaptic transmission, intrinsic membrane properties)?
- Thalamocortical transformations in the auditory and barrel systems.
- Network Dynamics: Spontaneous activity, UP and DOWN states, mean-field dynamics, bi-stability, simulation of large networks of IF neurons.
- Synaptic Transmission: Short-term depression and facilitation, synaptic unreliability, synaptic response variability, vesicle depletion models.
